Surface Preparation

The decorative chip and quartz specialist.

All concrete will be diamond grinded using a state of the art walk behind diamond grinder with a dustless vaccum system. Our competitors use an acid etch, which is not an approved preparation technique. Oils, grease, gasoline, antifreeze, road salts, water, sealers, pet urine, laitance (unremoved surface layer), efflorescence (concrete dust) or foreign containments (dirt) remaining on or in the surface will significantly affect the ability of any coating to bond to the floor.

Now throw in the fact that you’ll be driving a several thousand pound vehicle onto the surface and you will see why we make the surface preparation such an important part of a successful coating. We don’t want it to just look nice as we drive away from completing the install we want it to look good and be durable for as long as you own your house!

Surface preparation is the single most important factor in determining long term bonding performance of a concrete coating. At Irondrive we cut no corners. We have invested in the proper equipment to do all jobs right, the first time. To prepare the surface for coating we literally remove the top layer (1/16 – 1/8 inch) of concrete. This process removes all containments and lets us apply our coating to a fresh clean surface.
